    even though this is not a laptop, it does look better than the last 1, but what is DIFFERENT about it, besides the 3.46 processor??????Thats all they did, they need more than that, how bout SLI technology, watercooling, windows, what about all that? DUH!

    hmm... well the answer to the lack of sli is the fact that dell don't "like" amd chips... It would be a much more appealing system with (the option of) an Nforce 4 SLI mobo and an FX55 processor... or at least the option of a normal P4??? Watercooling is a little extravagent since you can't overclock dells (void your warranty...) so basically it would be an added expense for no real gain (and what PC user who a) Would buy this thing and not build his own and b) spends $300 in a quest for silence?... if you've got that sort of money you're the sort of person who goes to a boutique builder...

    And who likes windows... I mean seriously - all those ugly IDE cables.

    Does look good tho

    But it is really, really expensive... With 2 GB's of ram, a radeon X800 XT, a nice 19" flat panel moniter (only $350), Dual Raptors (Raid 0), DVD, CD-RW Dual CD drives, $50 speakers, basic keyboard and mouse..... for $4,305... you could build the same thing for about $2500

    Well at least its not alienwares Xeon based SLI system....

    Have
    Dell Inspiron 2500, 800 Mhz P3, 312 MB Ram, 6.5 MB Onboard Graphics

    Want
    Dell 9200, 2.0 GHz, 1024 MB Ram, 128 MB Ati Mobility Radeon 9700 Graphics

    They have a 1066mhz FSB, which means a way higher clock potential in the future.

    * Inspiron 8600c * 1.8ghz Pentium M * 128 MB Radeon 9600 Pro Turbo * 2x512 MB DDR2700 SDRAM * 60GB 7200RPM HDD *

    Where did you find this? I have been browsing the store looking for the Gen 4 and cannot find it. You link will take me directly to it, but browsing for it is a no go...
    BTW, FSB has no correlation to processor speed. The processor is a multiple of the FSB, but a higher FSB does not mean a higher processor speed. For that matter, Intel has already announced that they scrapped the 4 ghx P-IV.

    I got link from someone elses post, he said something about needing a special coupon code to access it. Looks like its not really available until dec 2 but you can pre-order it.

    That seems wierd. If I spec out a standard XPS (Gen 3) I get the same ship date as the Gen 4. I think it is available and technically not a pre-order.
    This is the machine I have been waiting for. I think it will have more life then the Gen 3 because I could replace the processor with a higher speed one in a year or two. I don't think the 800 mhz FSB will have the shelf life...

    Now to convince the wife it is needed....
