Hello. I'm about to buy a XPS M1530, but I am not quite the techie... Here in Italy I have the option to get an the M1530 with an Intel Processor Core 2 Duo T725 with 2 GHz, a T 8100 at 2,10 GHz or a T8300 at 2,40 GHz. Now, how important is the decision b/w these 3? And where is the thin line? To my great surprise I found out my bro is having 2,80 GHz and my BF runs at 3 GHz... Are these Dell-specifications too old already????? Impossible, right? Thx

What are you going to be using the notebook for? If just general use and some light gaming I'd go with the 8100.

usually, there's just a minor difference in processing speeds..... 2.0ghz is good for most people...... for gaming, usually its the graphics card thats the bottleneck(eg crysis).... a bump in process would probably mean an extra 1-2fps..... not that worth it IMO

T8100 & T8300 are the latest - there are also T9300 (2.5) & T9500 (2.6). New mobile chips are due out this summer sometime. Usually there is very little difference in the prices from the 8100 to the 8300 - if it is ~$50, I would go 8300.

You did not mention if there was a price Difference and how much. If it is minimual or you do not care about price, go for the T8100 or 8300. As noted above they are the latest and are going to run cooler and on less power than the other.

Thanks for your replies! I'am not a gamer, just an average PC user, surfing, downloading :))) At the most I'd use Photoshop professional and Sony Vegas professional as a movie maker, which occuppies lots of memory but I've solved this one with an external hard-drive.

    Price difference:
T7250 with 2 GHz included in the original price
    T8100 at 2,10 GHz - additional 25 euro = 40 USD
    T8300 at 2,40 GHz - additional 67 euro = 104 USD

    Thx again

Does your brother or BF have core 2 duo's? are they a desktop or notebook? They may not be core 2 duo's, So they will be slower. Or they may be desktops witch you can get more powerful processors for.

These dell specs are not old and are up to date. For now...

I would say go for the T8300.

I bought the 9300 but if I had to choose again I'd choose the 8300.

    Good luck.
