I have an M210 with the CD/DVD burner. Whenever I try to play CDs or DVDs (in WMP) it just skips like the disc is dirty. However I've tried several different DVDs and CDs in perfect condition and they all do this.

But here is the kicker. I can rip CDs perfectly fine. I ripped a CD in just 3 minutes, and the files come out skip-free. So it seems like its got to be a software issue, right?

Any help on this would be appreciated....thanks :)

Yeah i'll try that when i get home and start troubleshooting it again, but I would like to continue using WMP regardless.

So CDs work OK now...no idea why, but they do.

However, DVDs skip with every player that I try. Any ideas?

It sounds to me like your drive has switched from a DMA mode to PIO mode. You can check under (right click) My Computer -> Properties -> Device Manager -> IDE. Check the primary and secondary, I am not sure what the optical drive is on in the m1210's (which I have, lol)

Using XP? If so, you will have to download a fix. It has a habit of switching the mode perminately after 5 failed sector reads and needs to be patched. Don't know about Vista, but this has worked for me in the past before with your same symptoms.

    Hi,
I'm having exactly the same problem - playback doesn't work, but ripping is fine... and nothing I try seems to work.

Does anyone know how to fix this??
