Is it necessary to get the 9 cell battery if you get the NVidia GeForce 7400 video graphics with the M1210 laptop? or will the 6 cell work just fine? (just trying to keep the traveling weight down.)

If your getting the 7400, and want to use it while traveling for a while, then yeah you need the 9 cell. A dedicated graphics card is going to eat up power, although nvidia's mobile cards have some good power management technology in them, its still going to use more power than GMA 950. Also, is 4.7 pounds really that much weight? I mean comeon. If you wanted a paper thin and light notebook, you shouldnt get a 1210.

The 6-cell will still get you 2.5-3 hours of battery life under normal light usage. If you need more than get the 9-cell.

If you are mostly near an outlet, the battery won't matter.

True ZaZ, but gaming in a boring 2 hour class would require alot more power than the 6-cell can offer ;)

I guess it come down to personal preference. You could have the lighter and overall smaller, but shorter battery life of a 6-cell, or the slightly larger (quarter-inch?) and heavier (.4 pounds) , but logically 33% longer battery life of the 9-cell. I would choose the 9-cell, and actually I did yesterday.

Heh, I ordered one of each. I know it's going to weight a bit more but my M1210 will probably live in a backpack so the weight won't be noticed much

I say, if you are going to game, go with the 9 cell...(meaning, if you are going to play, surf, type, webcam) and you are not stationed in one place long enough to recharge than by all means...I say the 9 cell...but if you only have a couple of classes a day and it's only for note taking (which I'm sure every classroom should have an outlet) than go with a 6 cell, basically in my book, longer the travel, bigger the battery...but as the previous post above mentioned...it's only .4 pounds more for 33% more power...which by my standards..and because I live in the USA...MORE MORE MORE.....SUPERSIZE it...do it....

talking about batteries... when do you suppose the 9 cell and 6 cell aftermarket batteries will show up on ebay and what nots?

well, i personally hate the extended batteries that stick out the front or back of a laptop, I just think its reallt ugly and would be really annoying, so I'd get the 6-cell, and 2.5-3 hours still quite decent, as long as you dont plan on doing mobile gaming for more than like an hour or an hour and a half...

If you don't like a battery sticking out the back but still want longer hours of battery power, how about this? If it's in your budget, buy two 6-cell batteries. That way, when you get the warning that the battery is almost out of power, save and power down, then switch out the two batteries and power up again. For gamers, I'm not sure if you'd be willing to interrupt your play to switch out the batteries, but for others who mainly use Office applications, this might be a good option. I guess you'd also have to carry the extra 6 cell battery around, but in the end, if you really don't like the bigger one sticking out, this seems like a viable solution. And...the 6 cell battery is quite small and doesn't weigh *that* much, at least in comparison to the 9 cell one.

I hate the look of the 9 cell, and it took me so long to decide which to get ... I ended up getting one of each (lol) because it was only $30 more than getitng the 9 cell alone, and I figured I could sell the 9 cell on ebay if I didn't end up needing it : ) no one's selling them yet, perhaps I will even make money on this ...

I decided that if I was going to game in class, then I might as well game at home and cut class, b/c ain't much learning going on if I'm gaming, so I might as well be comfortable.
