I am going to receive my XPS M1210 early next week and needed to know if it comes with any backup discs particularlly the Windows OS and the Dell Management software (I think I can get the rest online from dell, and I don't need the Sonic or Cyberlink stuff).

It's on a restore drive on the HD IIRC - you'll need to call in and ask for it I believe.

It depends on how and where you ordered the Dell (not just with the M1210). I received a full Windows XP reinstallation CD (just branded with Dell on it), and another Dell CD with drivers/utilities on it (although I forgo that usually and download the latest drivers directly off the internet).

Sometimes Dell charges a small extra on getting that XP reinstallation CD on various sites (Dell New Zealand for example, sometimes have a saperate option when you are configurating the machine for getting that CD for a small fee). So, best to phone up and speak to a rep about the order and make sure it does come with them.

I actually paid like $8 for the Windows and Dell discs, but wanted to get some extra software discs when I got my computer for reformatting, so as soon as I got the computer I requested the backup discs for like Cyberlink and Roxio and such and they sent me everything (including Windows and Dell discs) for free and they arrived the next day. So, just ask for them when you get our computer.

Yeah, it seems that I have to receive the laptop before they will send me the discs. I have some Media Center CDs from a MCE machine I built a year ago. Good enough for a reformat. Thanks for all of your help.

just call dell and ask for it. it should be free. the customer rep. will tell you that he/she will make a exception for you, but they're supposed to give it to you in the first place.

when i got my e1705 i chatted with a rep and he/she agreed to send me the discs within 5 minutes. 1 day shipping to boot! just be sure to ask them to send you the cyberlink dvd, sonic, drivers, and the media direct repair disc as well.

My xps m1210 came with all the discs. No ordering necessary. But when I reformatted, I only used the xp media center discs, the drivers I downloaded before I started.

I had the M1210 shipped to where I am going to be for the next week, it arrived at that destination today. I started a chat with a Dell rep, they asked for the system tag and said he'd just sent them out. No talk of special case, just sent them, easy. They told me to ignore the invoice that comes with the discs. Thanks for all the assistance. Perhaps the system ended up coming with the discs anyway... Will see tomorrow.
