I just started looking at the M1210, my budget is about 1300. I need a 2 year warranty and Nvidia Go video card, and maybe the 9cell batery. Now is that possible with a coupon, I know XPS coupons are very scarce but how often do they come out? Can i get a 30% off epp? Any help?
-
Dell normally doesn't have XPS coupons, and as for the 30% off, you can probably find one on Ebay and buy it. You might want to look at our tech bargains forum and see if there is any available.
They do have the 10 day deals going on this week, but i haven't seen the M1210 offered yet. -
The more I hear about Dell hardly letting any XPS coupons out the more I'm starting to wonder if those 30% off ANY SYSTEM epp coupon were meant to be that way. A lot of people got nice XPS desktops and laptops (myself included
!!) I understand how you feel when you miss a big sale, but I'm sure you'll find a deal eventually. Good luck!

Probably the EPP coupons are meant to be used that way, but they aren't like the regular coupons. The regular coupons are publicly published and available for any user to use as long as they meet the requirements. The coupons can be used mulitple times, where as the EPP coupons are not publicly published, and usually are 1 time use only.

XPS coupons are indeed very scarce. I was lucky enough to get one off of ebay a few days before it expired.

For $1299, you can always get a m1210 at Costco.com

Anyone know if this was the FIRST time they had the 30% off coupons ? -
1.What about the warranty can I still get one through dell?
2.It unfortunetly comes with all the junk dell loads there systems with, right? -
-
You'll get a 1 year phone and on site warranty support which you can extended at any time while you are in warranty. I believe you do get the junkware on the Dell systems, but the good news is that it should come with the XP disc since all M1210's are suppose to include this. If it doesn't, you can always contact dell and get the disc.
If you scroll down just a bit, under the image it gives you the details about your warranty. The warranty is from Dell, not costco.

I just wanted to add in my thoughts on the machine real quick. I bought one about two weeks ago and its been a very good machine so far. I actually really, really like the keyboard. That may be because I was using a Sony SZ series laptop before this one so really any keyboard would probably be better. The real surprise is its a full sized keyboard, and the keys are very responsive and not mussy at all. Plus they are not clicky like the sz series are. The camera is well worth it as the picture and audio is very good. Just make sure you have a good light source as it can get pretty grainy in dark conditions, but its a built in 1.3 megapixel camera not a professional camera crew completing with lighting and HD recording
The only thing to even possible complain about is the screen size, especially if you plan on using this machine for more then an hour or two at a time. I tried out a similiar sized laptop at circuit city, and saw no real problems with the display. However, I didn't stand there typing and reading for two hours either. So my words of wisdom are make sure you can deal with the little display, and don't just look at a 12 inch screen and assume everything will be fine. See if a friend as a similiar size laptop or maybe create your own 12 inch screen on whatever computer you currently have. You could cover it up in such a way, with paper or whatever, so that you create a 12 inch widescreen and see what you think of reading and typing text in such a small box.
Good luck finding a good deal. I may be selling mine very soon. I just don't think I can handle this little display especially with all the typing I do. My machine has a 2.0 ghz processor 100gb hard drive 5400, dvd burner, wifi, bluetooth, 9 cell battery, and av pack. i bought it through ebay and still have the option of adding a three year warranty through safe trade for only $180. Just kind of throwing it out there incase anyone might be intereseted in it. I am not officially selling it just yet, so thats why I have not listed it in the buy section, but if someone is interested I would be willing to except offers. Thanks -

On another note, I ordered my m1210 the last day that the EPP XPS coupons expired (July 5). The XPS coupons are very rare so I had to pull the trigger. But it will be interesting to see what the 10 days of deals will do with the m1210 (if at all). -

Using my new XPS M1210 right now, laying in bed, watching "Wedding Crashers" on my 40" XBR1.. Gotta swap out my wireless router tommorrow. I bought a Net Gear and its a real dog. Gonna snag a Linksey in the AM. Still "borrowing wifi off one of my neighbors!

Are you sure about extending the warranty? I was told by dell that I could not extend my warranty or add an accidental damage because I didn't purchase it directly from dell (i got it from costco). -
-
To be honest, I'm not 100% sure. I would contact Dell's Warranty area. The tech support doesn't always give a clear answer. Here is the site for information about upgrading your warranty:
http://www.dell.com/content/topics/segtopic.aspx/ex_warranty?c=us&cs=04&l=en&s=bsd&~section=002
From my understanding, costco is just a reseller, and all of the warranties and service are provided by Dell. The XPS support is something that only Dell provides. It even states at the bottom that Dell provides the phone support and XPS support, and that the at home service is provided by a 3rd party (this is the same for all of the other laptops).
Even if you buy your laptop on eBay or from the previous user, you can transfer the warranty over to the new user. It doesn't matter that you bought it from Costco instead of Dell. All that really matters is that you are getting a Dell warranty with it.
The best thing I can tell you is to call Dell's Warranty department. I could be wrong, but considering that the warranty is provided by Dell, I don't see how they can refuse to allow you to upgrade. I can understand if the warranty was provided by Costco or was not added to your cost, but in reality, the warranty is already configured into your cost. Part of your total cost goes towards the warranty. -

Just chated with a saled rep about the warrenty and he said the DEFINITALY will be able to extend it over the cource of the 1yr. Another thing- the m1210 seems to not have a locking mechanism on the LCD to the base, will the screen ever just open up, this has me worried
-
well that's good to know about the warranty, all I did was fill in that form and they emailed me back later that day saying it couldnt be done. I'll give them a call now and try it that way.
-
We're getting a bit off topic.... but I've wondered about this too. I've heard someone say it has magnets to keep it shut, like many new laptops do. I've not necessarily convinced of this. Seems like it may have a mechanical system in the hinge that helps keep it shut. -
Did anyone get the M1210 from Costco? How is it? I was looking at the specs for it, and was considering buying it, is it worth it?
-
I think its definitaly worth it, its around 400 dollars less than dell.com -
I'd wait around for another 30% off Dell EEP coupon or something...
-
how often does dell have the coupons?
-
Btw, I keep reading different dimensions for the M1210, so I was wondering how thick is it? Sometimes I read 1'' other times I read 1.4''

Having actually measured it... it starts at 1.2" in the front and gets to 1.4" in the back.

does anyone know if by ordering from Costco I could get a faster shipping time? heres the link- http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product.aspx?Prodid=11146436&whse=BC&topnav=&browse=#shipinfo

I actually cannot find a 30% off for XPS systems. Did anyone else find it? I get around 12% discount through the university I attend, but thats about it...and that means getting a three or four year warranty I won't use...
