i posted my problem on dell support website.

    - My new Dell XPS M1210 screen has started periodically (every 4~5 seconds) flickering since I formatted it from originally delivered OS (windows media center edition 2005) to windows XP professional SP2. To verify the reason of this faulty, I have tried re-formatting my laptop several times using different versions of OS’s ( windows XP pro SP1, windows XP pro SP2 and windows XP media center edition 2005: all those are authenticated versions). The only OS that did not show flickering trouble was windows XP pro w/SP1. After I checked there’s no problem with SP1, I updated it to SP2 and flickering again!! when i updated to SP2, no application software was installed on my laptop except hardware drivers down-loaded from Dell. my video driver and BIOS were updated to the latest version. i noticed that this problem was shown in both battery and power plugged modes. i tried dell diagnostic software to check out hardware but no defect was detected.

i googled and found few postings that dell will replace unit to new one regarding screen flickering issue. if there's someone who's got new machine regarding this issue, please tell me it works fine without trouble. if new unit still has flickering problem, i think it is not a hardware defect but software (windows SP2) issue. anyone has solution for this? thanks in advance!

CPU: Intel Core Duo Processor T2500 (2GHz/667MHz FSB)

Video Controller: 256MB NVIDIA GeForce Go 7400 TurboCache, for XPS M1210
Hard drive: 80GB 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive, for XPS M1210
    OS: Windows XP professional SP2

I would send it in for repair. My E1505 flickers only when I turn on the computer and that is once but I assume nothing is wrong because it happens on my desktop. But in your case it seems like it is flickering when you are web surfing and so on. The best suggestion is send it in to dell.

Since there is no way you could be out of warranty (I think the m1210's came out in April) you should send it in to Dell ASAP. Bettery to be safe than sorry.

The screen flickering issue is one that is common amongst M1210 owners.

Try using a different driver from laptopvideo2go instead of the one on Dell Downloads (v84.69).

I would try updating the drivers first. Normally, this will solve most problems. If it doesn't, as another user stated, this will be covered in your warranty. All you have to do is call/chat with Dell and explain the problem. They shouldn't give you any hassle, and you'll most likely get a new screen out of it unless they think it is a video card problem.
