Hi...i was considering buying the XPS M1530 but have opted to purchase the M1330 instead in the next week.
I need some advice on one issue of configuration that is really annoying me...

I'm going abroad to work for a year and need a webcam to keep in contact with family once every week or two....
Considering i can get both options for basically the same price...
do you think i should opt for what seems to be the more sought-after LED screen which has a 0.3mp webcam or the CCFL display with a 2.0mp webcam?

I like the idea of the slightly better battery life and slightly thinner and better quality picture with the LED but the 2mp camera on the CCFL is just about swinging it for me at the minute....what do you think???

    Basically i'd like to know....
is the 0.3mp VGA camera on the LED poorish quality for skype or msn video chats and is the 2.0MP CAMERA ON CCFL much better quality?!?

Any advice would be much appreciated as this issue is wrecking my head! :(
    Thanks!! :)

I would still go for the LED Backlit display easily! 0.3mp cam will be adequate for webcam viewing, if you wanted something super clear and crisp get a dedicated one perhaps. Well, I think the benifits of the LED screen severely outweigh the slightly higher quality of the webcam anyway...

I agree. You should go for the LED screen with the 0.3mp camera. Since you're using the camera as a webcam on both laptops the resolution would both be 640x480 vga quality. If you want to take photos the 2mp camera would be better. Also there will be more benefits using an LED screen as you would be using it everyday. The webcam you won't right?

i agree with unrealmusik i think the camera on the LED screen would be sufficient for normal webcamming, but if you really wanted something better you could get a seperate one. The one even on the CCFL isn't amazing.

just got my ccfl backlit m1330 the screen is plenty bright and is very white, whiter and brighter then my folks new hp. with the LED I have herd there is little battery gain. I am sure the led is better but the ccfl looks good enough.

leaning more now towards the LED 0.3mp camera...
so the two different cameras (ccfl 2mp & led 0.3mp) are the same really when video chatting??? (msn skype etc)
the only difference really is when taking still pics?

    Yes,
0.3MP = 640x480, which is more than enough for normal video chatting. Skype’s default resolution is only 320x240, even to make it work at 640x480 you have to manually edit the config.xml (I dont think you have done that before, therefore you can get even better quality than what you are used to with a 0.3mp camera on skype ;) ). Also you would need around 400kbps upload bandwidth to steam video at 640x480 @ 25fps.

I wouldn't think twice about getting the LED screen if there is no price difference.

The benifits of the thin and light led display far out weigh anything. Also even though the camera is 0.3mp, it will have a better refresh and frame rate than the 2mp one. The only bonus to the 2mp one is you could take a picture. But who does that with their webcams?
