Hey, do you know that for a fact? Dell's site says it is with all their DVD+/-RW drives at 4x speed.

It actually varies from site to site.... DELL India only gives DVD Burner and Bluray burner option while some others give combo drive options as well.... What does it say in your invoice actually ?

Take the drive out and check the manufacturer's website for the model information... Only definitive source :D

Also, a DVD+/-RW drive doesn't have to support either dual layer format (or could just support one of the two). Generally speaking I've seen few few drives supporting -R DL

The manual that comes with it list, that it can write DVD+R DL but not DVD-R DL.

There should be a BD option since it has HDMI-out capabilities. Oh, well. Maybe an upgrade down the line...

Bellarc advisor says I have the Panasonic UJ-857 in my M1330

According to Dell it does write dual layer disks.
    See http://support2.jp.dell.com/docs/storage/P143928/en/specs.htm

(It is not clear if the supplied burner software will support dual-layer - I haven't tried but with the right software it should work for + and - standards)

HDMI ain't a reason to add a bluray drive right away (even though that would be a blast).

I want the M1330 with the new Penryn CPU, 64 GB SSD, better cam (for LED) and blu-ray.

    Now! :(

" Internal 8X DVD+/-RW Combination Drive with dual layer write capabilities "

Quoted from my Dell invoice so if it doesn't do dual layer I'd be quite disapointed :p

Can anyone recommend some reliable DL-media for the Mat****a UJ-857G that the XPS M1330 uses? I've just burnt three DL+ Ritek coasters and I'd like to avoid wasting any more money. :(

As much as I detest their generally proprietary and usually overpriced products (though I do own one or two since they're so good), Sony DVD+R DL have done very well for me with Nero.

Thanks Samuel - if I can find some of that brand, I'll definitely give it a try.
