    Hi,
In the next couple of days I am going to order an XPS M1330 over the phone.

I have bought £2500 (US $5000) of computers previously from Dell, and with the XPS M1330 this will increase to about £3400 (US $7000). I have all the invoices if they need proof of purchase.

How far do you guys think I will be able to push the sales rep. with regards to free upgrades and money off?

    Specs at the moment are
    1.8 GHz
    2.0 Gb ram
    LED display
    Biometric fingerprint reader
    128mb n-vidia 8400m GS
    120GB hard drive
    6 Cell battery
    Intel abg wireless
    Base warranty 1 year
    No accidental Damage support
Free USB Modem (I haven't used dial up in five years but i like freebies :) )

    £924.74 (US $1900)

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

    The possible upgrades are here:

If you dont have any reasons to argue with the rep besides that you want free stuff, i am going to say zero.

I have to second lordofericstan`s comment.

For a better price I`d go with minimum memory and would increase it myself at less than half the price Dell charges. Your config seems very expensive.

To maximize chances when discussing the issue with a Rep I`d make absolutely sure I`d find a great price online and would inquire afterwards with Rep about chances to have it enhanced. I`m sure they`d be interested to match it and even give it a little push to make sure the deal gets secured.

Without solid arguments it`s an uphill battle you`re about to start.

    Good luck.

I've bought a hell of a lot more from Dell than that, and it's never mentioned...doesn't work that way...you are no one to Dell. Dell sells thousands of computers per hour, they COULD CARE LESS if you bought 2 or 3 from them ;)

There are threads full of people who call Dell and negotiate better deals than they get online. Saying "You're nothing" to Dell is uninformed. Yeah, Michael Dell isn't gonna cry any tears if you don't buy anything, but the reps looking for sales will want to accomodate you.

And, btw, "Wanting free stuff" is a perfectly legitimate reason to call and ask for it.

There have been some tips on negotiating w/ Dell on the phone but it boils down to keep trying different reps till you get a deal you can live with. Some will offer you nothing, and some will work with you. Basically, if you're willing to be a little persistent, you should get maybe 50-75 pounds knocked off the price, or get some freebies of similar value without excessive amount of hassle.

Save the cart, give 'em a call and ask what they can do for you.

Edit: DoubleBlack, if you've bought that much from Dell and never gave them a call to bargain, you're prob not getting as good a value on your purchases as you can be.

Bear in mind that saving a cart and discussing upon it with a Rep, adds comments to your profile with a trace you don`t want to.

If you want to try different reps, you should not introduce yourself - as others have mentioned.

Price you`ve started with seems too high for a mere 50-75 shaving off... I`d still start with a lower price to then argue for discounts.

I never said I have never called...I ALWAYS call...

I'm just saying I don't talk about how much I've bought or anything like that when buying, because the reps don't care how much you have bought in the past. They only care about making that sale RIGHT THERE and that's all they are concerned about. If you bought 500 machines from a different rep, and tell this new rep OH I BOUGHT 500 MACHINES FROM DELL BEFORE they are going to be like okay?

They DON'T CARE, because you didn't buy it from them. They ONLY will give you additional discounts if you purchased a lot of machines from the SAME EXACT REP before.

Believe me, I got a better bargain than you did...MUCH BETTER. What did I get?

    1420
    T7300
2GB of RAM (upgraded to 4GB upon receipt)

    8400GS
    Intel Wireless N

pb, that is a good idea. In dr's case maybe the best negotiating strategy is to price out a cheaper configuration (maybe $100-$150 cheaper) and try to have the options added for free or at a discount. Like "Throw in this, this, and that and we got a deal!" kind of thing.

$2,000 for that? doesn't look like a very good deal, anymore then $1500, seems way too much for what you have listed.

Is that all? And you think because you bought a measly what $5,000 US and they are going to treat you better. Please don't even bother to mention it . For a second I thought you purchase over $1,000,000 US. LOL.
