My dell xps m1330 media buttons (the ones that are in the top of the keyboard) dont work, those are the buttons that are touch sensitive (eject, next track, stop play, previous track, mute, volume decrease, increase)
I have windows Vista with all the drivers required
    I can't eject my cds.

in media direct/ bios/ vista i have this problem

I have reinstalled the drivers hoping it was a software problem.

Is this a motherboard problem or a cable problem?

    I have a refurbished laptop

    Help!

first you need to check if you have dell quick set installed, i think with out it the buttons sould work but not properly, then

you need to check a flat white cable that connects that buttons to the mother board, for that you need to remove the battery, and 2 screws under the battery hatch, then you can release the button bar, and verify the cable.

You can check how to do this in a service manual from dell support page.

    hope this helps

The media buttons aren't dependednt on quickset- They are coded into the bios. At least the eject button is. It is probably the cable that's either not properly connected, or faulty..

I checked the cable, and it is correctly connected to the media buttons module, maybe the cable is loose on the motherboard end

Does the cable have another end connected to the motherboard right?

Yes the cable must be connected properly at both ends. If it is and your buttons are still not working then it could be the cable or the media buttons module are faulty. If that's the case contact Dell.
