Has anyone installed the stand alone Vista SP1 download from the Microsoft site onto their XPS M1330? I had read some posts from some Thinkpad owners that the reason Vista SP1 does not show up on Windows Update is because there is a conflict with the finger print reader driver. I'm wondering if this is the same reason why SP1 is not coming up on Windows Update when I click search for updates.

In my case I think that SP1 doesn't show up in Windows Update because of the language packs I have installed... there are only about 5 languages supported by this initial release of SP1

I did last night. It worked well but I did a clean install. Reformatted, installed Vista Home Premium, installed SP1, installed drivers, installed updates (only 2) in that order. Worked well. The last time I ran Vista (a few months ago) I frequently got BSOD's. Doing fine now.

I have an XPS 1330, and like others here I could not initially see the SP1 in Windows Update. I checked out the MS article, updated my drivers, and now all is good.

cosrocket: Note that there are two sets of fingerprint downloads. There is the software on Dell's site, and the actual drivers on UPEK's site. It's the drivers you need.

    Go here:

    http://www.upek.com/support/download...rs/windows.asp

    And download the 4.4Mb package.

The update is painless and fast. Then re-boot. Yes, it doesn't say you need to, but I think you need to refresh Window's listing before update works. SP1 should now appear in Update.

    Hopefully this helps!

Thanks for pointing out the language; I forgot that I installed a second language; truth is, I already have the SP1 beta, so I guess I can wait.
