i recently found that my xps m1330 order (im from canada) got cancelled. after i called the rep on monday, he offered me a free upgrade, i said i would get back to him as i wasnt sure about which upgrade or whether to upgrade at all. basically a upgrade to either for $50 (more or less free) because of the blue tooth price problem and the cancelation.

    i can either upgrade:

    -the processor from C2D T7500 2.2GHz to C2D T7700 2.4GHz

    or

-the ram from 1GB to 2GB (i'm intending to upgrade to 3 or 4GB anyways so i'll probably liquidate the 2x1GB sticks)
-a free bag (i already have a bag but i'll probably have it as a backup or liquidate it as well)
-upgrade from 120 GB Harddrive at 5400RPM to 160 GB Harddrive at 5400RPM (i'm planning to buy my own 200/250GB 720RPM and change it anyways)

2.4GHz processor seems to be overkill but i don't really need the other things. Is there anything negative about a 2.4GHz processor in comparison to a 2.2GHz... it can only be better right? rather than getting things i'll have to sell, should i upgrade to something i can't change later on? or should i just not take the $50 upgarde? i'm also worried that making a change will delay my order since i was supposed to contact him today but i still wasnt sure. basically save a few bucks (buy 2x2GBs ram + buy200/250GB HD - sell items) or upgrade something i wont be able to change (without voiding the warranty) afterwards?

If you dont really want or need upgrades, ask for a discount.

The 2.4GHz will be better in every way except power consumption and heat dissipation. If you plan on upgrading everything but the CPU after market anyways and would rather upgrade than a discount coupon, well, I don't see what other choice you have other than the CPU.

Why a coupon, just say you want $100 refunded to your card after the order goes through. Or you want $100 taken off of your system price.

If the ram is going to get upgraded anyway i'd try for a 200gb 7200rpm drive.

    Can you get those?

There are no hard numbers as of yet of the difference between the T7500 and T7700 in terms of power consumption and heat, but there will be a difference.

right now 250gb is only avail in 5400
but since 7200 is upto 200gb already, 250 shouldnt be far off
