Whenever my m1330 accesses the hdd, I hear a faint high-pitch noise. It's not that loud, but it's definitely noticeable. Anyone have this problem? or is it just mine?

Which hard drive is it? 5400 or 7200 rpm?

Hmmm...that's weird. Is it during spin up, spin down, or both? I haven't really heard anything about HDD whine, although if you listen extremely carefully, you will hear the spindle going.

My guess would be the heat sink... I hear them from time to time on desktops.

My M1210 made a high pitched noise something to do with piezo effect from the core 2 duo when entering a low power state???

I should have looked over about this issue earlier. I just bought a XPS M1330 and it did not take long for me to notice the high pitch noise. It bothers me. Anyways, I called Dell Tech Support and they said it was not a known issue and they could not really tell me what was going on. Well, they are sending me a replacement machine, but I am afraid it could still be making the noise. The high pitch noise comes from the area where the media controls are (is there where the hard drive is?, my hard drive is 250 GB). The noise never goes away. I hope it is an issue with just some machines and not with the general design of the XPS M1330 because I really like the computer. If my replacement machine keeps on doing it I will have to request a refund and buy another kind of computer.

Have you had your problem solved?
