    Hi,

In an effort to save money, I'm just wondering how much having a processor like the Core 2 Duo T5250 on an XPS M1330 with the GeForce 8400M GS will affect gaming performance. I think that games would be more GPU-limited with this video card, so the processor here would not have much of an effect on its performance. What do you think?

Also, how would this processor compare to the Athlon 64 3000+ 1.8 GHz processor in my desktop?

    Thanks!

Definitely. Most games will be GPU limited. The CPU shouldn't affect things too much - how much RAM will you be getting?

The T5250 will greatly outperform your desktop A64 3000+ (outperforms a bit in single-threaded apps, destroys the A64 in multi-threaded apps).

At the moment, I would be ordering it with only 1 GB of RAM. Of course, RAM is the easiest thing to upgrade, so at some point I could upgrade to 2 GB. I would probably actually wind of saving money by getting the 1 GB from Dell and buying a pair of 1 GB sticks separately, then selling the ones Dell gave me or something...

So you think it would not be worth the extra money for the faster processors? How many fps do you roughly estimate I might lose by going for the T5250? 2?

It's good to hear that the T5250 is better than my A64 3000+, though. I feel this processor is decent enough for me, so I don't have to worry about downgrading...

None. The 8400 GS would be the bottleneck, as you realize.

    Alright, thanks.

While I'm on the subject, do you think upgrading to a 7200 RPM hard drive would be worth the amount of money Dell is charging for it?

I'm sure it would increase loading times and everything, but by how much?

And for those of you getting an XPS M1330, did you opt for a 7200 RPM hard drive?

    Thanks!

I'm guessing this is the right answer, better in multi threaded same in single
