    Hi,

I have a shiny new Dell XPS M1330 with Vista, packed to the gills, 4 year warranty, etc.

When I connect using the Remote Desktop Connection to a Windows Terminal Server, I get very frequent drops and disconnects. We are talking 10-15 minutes at most before the drop.

If I install XP on the same laptop, connect to the same TS, everything works as expected, the connection stays up for hours.

Dell tells me that this IS NOT covered under their warranty support. They call it advanced networking. Ha. Microsoft won't touch me, I'm Dell's customer.

At the same time, of course, Dell does not officially support XP on this model, does not release proper drivers, etc.

So beware: As of now, this unit is defective. Until MS releases a fix, do not buy a machine with Vista only drivers/support.

I'm on the phone right now with Dell to fight for a refund. They can duke it out with MS while I shop for a new laptop, let the market force them to make the fix.

(for those of you keeping track: Dell is 0 for 2 with me!)

Have you considered it's perhaps the server that you're connecting to causing the problem?

I run Vista on my m1330 and connect to both XP and Vista machines using RDP without any problems whatsoever.

So the newest RDP client is incompatible with some Terminal Servers? (both MS products, mind you, part of the compelling reason to use MS products!)

Clearly MS has yet another Vista-related issue here. I'm assuming a relatively simple one, and they will eventually get around to it. That does not absolve either company from their responsibility for making Vista work as least as good as XP!

authorization problem with vista? have you considered turning off the security featuers? it could be a timeout on vista's end of the TS

If you are using wireless to connect I would check the Dell site to see if there is an updated wireless driver for your wireless card first.

Honestly it sounds like a configuration issue on your end.......not necessarily a "Vista-related issue". As I said, I'm able to connect from my m1330 with Vista to both XP and Vista machines via RDP and the connection is rock solid.

Update your wireless drivers as someone else mentioned and check your configuration options for RDP (security).

I connect just fine also doing RDP to my servers and to our TAM online srevice. Possible there could be an error between chair and keyboard?
