So I got my refurbed m140 today from dell...machine looks brand new and no dead pixels or problems...but I noticed it came with only two discs...a wordperfect disc and an Anti virus disc....I assume everythig esle is preloaded but just cuirous if others got anything else in theirs....other than the two discs there was the power cord, set up poster and a maintenance book.....

You should get a Dell restore disc. I would also call them and request the OS disc, which they should send to you for free. This way you have it incase you want to wipe the system clean. :)

As far as I know they aren't shipping restore discs anymore. They just have the spare partition for that.

Lilke USAF said, I would at least get the OS disc. If you get that disc, you'll also need to request Cyberlink PowerDVD (dvd decoder/player) and Sonic RecordNow (recording software). When you get teh OS disc, you'll get 3 more discs with it that inclues drivers and applications.

Grr, i hate their tech support sometimes.

THe partition that they are talking about is going to reformat your computer so you have all of the junk software on there. For some users that is okay, but the junkware is going to slow down your system and takes up a bunch of space.

If you've reformatted a computer before or want to reformat your laptop, you have to tell the tech support that you want the XP disc, not the restore partition.

I just had a nice im session with a tech person and he is sending the discs...I asked how the weather was in India, and told him tika marsala is my favorite Indian dish, amazing how far a little polite chat can take you.... :)

Glad to hear you got your discs - sometimes you've got push a little harder, or try a second time to get what you want from Dell though.

I'm quite sure they ship restore discs with all their XPS machines. However, for there outher computers you have to request the discs.

Well I meant restore discs as in the discs with all of the junk software. Not the XP disc.

I thought the XPS systems were getting XP discs, not restore discs.

My xps M140 came with all the restore discs. But then again, that was like 3 months ago when I ordered it. So perhaps things have changed.
