I've got a XPS M1530, with 3.5mm jack output and HDMI output. I also have a Logitech Z5500 5.1 speaker set connected to my desktop, which I love. They have 3.5mm input, component input, S/PDIF input and Optical input.
I'm about to move into my first apartment, and am leaving the desktop at home, but taking the laptop and the speakers. I'm trying to figure out my options for using these speakers with this laptop. In an ideal world, with money and tech being no object, I could have a wireless hookup to these speakers. Change a setting on my M1530, and begin utilizing these speakers.
I am ok with using a 2.0 output, since these speakers have the capability of re-mixing a standard 2.0 output to a 5.1 output pretty well. But if there is some way I can get a 5.1 output from my laptop, I would obviously prefer that.
After researching my options for an hour or so, I'm turning it over to you guys. What are my options here? Is it possible to use wifi to stream an audio signal? Or a very small USB dongle? Creative seems to have some options, but I cannot figure out if they are compatible with my set up, or if they require me to use ty proprietary Creative software. Can I get 5.1 output?
I recognize I could use a 3.5mm to 3.5mm cord, but I would like to know if there are any other options out there.
Thanks guys.
