    (Sorry for my English ;))

I'm about to buy a new laptop and I think that Dell could be ideal for me.
But I don't know which model would be the best ; ).
    (prices are from Dell Belgium)

    The XPS M1530
    Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor T9300 (2.5GHz/800Mhz FSB, 6MB Cache)
Genuine Windows Vista® Home Premium Edition SP1
Memory 4GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz (2 Dimms)
High Resolution, glossy widescreen 15.4 inch LCD(1440x900) & 2MP Camera
    256MB NVIDIA® GeForce® 8600M GT
    400GB SATA Hard Drive (5400RPM)
85 WHr 9-cell Lithium Ion Primary Battery
    1Yr Warranty
    -----------
    1.131,14 € (~$1530)

    The Latitude E6500
    Intel® Core™ 2 Duo P8600(2.40,1066MHz,3MB)
French - (Downgrade) Windows Vista™ Professionnal SP1 32Bit to XP Pro SP3 - With Media
    4GB 800MHz DDR2 memory (2 x 2GB)
15.4in Wide Screen WXGA+ (1440x900) with LED backlit
Mobile Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator X4500HD
200GB serial ATA HDD 7200RPM (Free Fall Sensor)
    6 Cell 54WHr LI-ION Primary Battery
3Yr Basic Warranty - Next Business Day
    -----------
    1.487,09 € (~$2000)

XPS is cheaper but has a better graphic card (I'd like to play some games as HL2, but not so often) and also the nine cells battery. (but the E6500 the LED screen)
The T9300 isn't a "new" processor. Is the difference between this one and Centrino2 really noticeable ? (RAM and CPU haven't the same FSB)

I'd like to do some calculation (Matlab), some programming but also sometimes being able to play "old" games (as HL2).

Is the price difference worth ?

    Thanks in advance ; )

If you want to play games, the XPS is a much better choice. I would not choose integrated graphics of any kind for games.

Do you really want to buy one of those defective Nvidia chips when you can get the Intel solution in the E-Series Latitude?

Read up on the Nvidia chip problems. I'm pretty sure the XPS m1530 is on the dreaded list..

You are comparing integrated graphics to dedicated LOL. For games that x4500 won't do "F" all. And there are MANY nvidia owners not experiencing problems. Just people like you LOVE to jump on this wagon because they read about it in some other post, when really they don't know anything about it.

There is such a thing as warranty with Dell.

As far as the 9 cell battery goes, that E6500 should get better battery life than the m1530, even though it has a 6 cell instead of a 9 cell.

And at that configuration, the Latitude should run very, very cool.

here, i would go with the XPS just because it's cheaper for the specifications it offers. Good cpu, good gpu, great amount of hard drive space and larger capacity battery. You can use the extra money saved for a 2 or 3 year warranty

Don't worry about the nVidia thing. Go for XPS since it will be better for HL and MATLAB.
