After installing the Bios update, my touchpad no longer erratically moves after opening the lid.![]()
-
Thanks for the heads up!
-
Sweet! Nice catch!
-
Installed, will test it at some point at the moment I'm using my USB mouse so can't use it just yet.
-
This also includes the much needed Intel VT support for running 64-bit VMs.
-
Glad to hear the VT support is finally enabled.
What I find surprising is that the update is marked as Critical!
I wonder what else is in that update?
A07 added Penryn support and it was a recommended update so it can't be the CPU support and I doubt the optical drive support is critical (unless it affects Bluray functionality) as new notebooks with new optical drives would come from the factory with A08.
I doubt the touchpad fix is considered critical either....
Wish the release notes were more descriptive
I wasn't going to bother upgrading since my touchpad doesn't seem to have any erratic problems... however, with the VT support I may as well.
EDIT: Seems that they've reduced it from Critical to Urgent since I last looked -
I've downloaded the recent BIOS and I am still having some touchpad problems on the M1530 like automatic text highlighting and my left click would activate by itself.
-
Do you have tap to click disabled? or does it do the above when you are not touching the touchpad?
Tapping to click is a feature with touchpad's that many including myself struggle with. Its too easy to accidently do things. -
Tap to click is annoying.
In fact, the whole touchpad on the m1530 is rather sketchy.
If they could release an update that has someone come to my home and replace the touchpad with a better one, that would be much better.
I never thought I'd use my bluetooth mouse so much with this laptop, but I seriously HATE using the sh***y touchpad... -
I've been annoyed by this since I got my laptop 2 weeks ago. I have just installed the Bios update and it looks like the erratic behavior is gone!!
I'm so glad they finally got around to fixing this. I'm also glad I didn't have to suffer with this for a long time. -
Good to hear that Havanah Joe!
My brother just received his xps m1530.. came with the A07 BIOS but he doesn't have the touchpad issue unlike me who can't stand it. -
It also supports new optical drives. That this mean an update for bluray players too?
-

Thanks for the head's up echao12.
Out of curiosity, I'm used to flashing the BIOS via a floppy or thumbdrive. Is it generally okay to flash via Windows as per the Dell instructions? -
flashed it with exe from windows few minutes ago. quick and painless, it was done in a minute with one restartas far as i can see, touchpad problem is gone. yea!
-
-
Worked for me... no touchpad issue. My wireless performance has decreased though - not sure if it's my ISP acting up or if it's the 4965 acting up.
-
Flashed my BIOS to A08 last night, no problems so far.
-
All went well for me too.
-
-
-
thanx to the OP... touchpad problem fixed!!
-
I installed it but the problem persists!
Maybe my laptop is jinxed. It has multiple problems. -
Just out of curiosity, will this have any impact if I have WINDOWS XP instead of Vista?
-
It worked for me and I was running on A06 & Vista. This is the best thing since sliced bread. I can finally carry my laptop from upstairs to downstairs (vice versa) with the lid closed. I am soooo happy with my 1530 now....
-
It might be just me but i think the touchpad feels more accurate and sensitive now. Before it used to irritate me so much I would try to use the keyboard as much as possible but now if feels like a touchpad should!
-
Ironically, the touchpad has been more flaky for me since the update. I've never had the issue when opening the lid, but there are times when the touchpad will just freak out.
I also like how the touchpad become unresponsive for a few seconds when you eject a disc.
My expectations were probably way too high for this dell... -
Ill be doing the bios update, then a fresh install of Vista, then with SP1 before anything and finally the latest drivers only.
They'll be no 'media direct' goin on it, seems to just mess things up. BSOD's -
BIOS A08 update for the XPS m1530 is really nice. The touchpad doesn't freak out on me anymore. Yeah, the touchpad becomes unresponsive for that 2-3 seconds while you eject a disc, but that is not an annoying issue. VISTA SP1 is also a nice update, especially getting rid of all the individual language pack.
-
I finally got to try to see if the new BIOS really does fix the problem and it does. Now my system works perfectly when I open the lid back up... Thanks for listening for once Dell.
-
I called dell customer support about this issue and we reinstalled a couple drivers and yeah, totally agree, so happy to see the touchpad working 100%!
-
Thanks for the update
