Which of these is a better choice for computer used mainly for design? This is not being used as a gaming machine but a desktop replacement.

I'm having a hard time seeing the difference (other than the look of the laptop)

    Thanks.

if you're doing 3D work, get the M90, which has a video card with better OpenGL support. Otherwise they are nearly identical.

I'll do video and graphic design...by 3D are you talking stuff like Maya and the such? I don't do anything of that sort.

Do you know if they both support dual monitors? I know the M90 does because a friend has it, not sure about the XPS.

For 2D stuff (video and images) there is *no* difference in video performance, only for OpenGL stuff (3D modeling etc).

Dual monitors, as in two external monitors? Can't say, I've never tried. But using both an external and the LCD works fine, so I suppose it's possible (one VGA and one DVI connection).

And, if it's doable on the M90, it's doable on the M1710.
