Posting for a friend looking at Dell for his next gaming rig:

He heard from the Geek Squad that if he buys a Dell XPS system, and it needs to be repaired 3 times for the same problem, that the entire system will be replaced.

Is there any truth to this?

Unfortunately, he purchased a Sager 9880 that has sever e heat problems and had seemed to fried his video card. He also forgot to update his warranty, and doesn't want to dump anymore money into a laptop that he feels will fail him again.

Ummm.... would you believe something that GM told you about a Ford?
No. If you get to that point, the system is sent to a special repair depot where they do actual testing on it to find out what is wrong. Any repairs that are done on a dell (whether at home or depot) are only what the telephone tech told them to do (I.E. replace something) they do very little testing. Infact they usually just turn it on and if it posts, then they consider it fixed. Notice I said post and not boot. On the third time we (dell) pulls the system into our special depot and have a tech that knows more then how to unscrew and screw in parts take a look at it. If you have any questions you can find the service agreements on Dell's site. It explains about how everything needs to be troubleshot over the phone and all that fun stuff.
