I just ordered a XPS 1210 and had a few questions is someone can help me:

It says removable 5 in 1 memory card reader - what type of slot is this removeable reader in? PCMCIA, Express 34?

Does that reader support SDHC - high capicity cards?

I plan on installing vista ultimate (i have it through my Technet subscription)

Question on Vista is - I ordered the dell pre n network card - will there be drivers for it - I notice that there are no drivers on the dell website?

Will there be any other hurdles with Vista on the XPS 1210 that I need to know about?

Thanks in advance for your help

the XPS 1210 isnt a Core Duo thus it has a 32 bit architecture. Therefore you wont be able to use Windows Vista Ultimate of Premium. For running these versions of Windows Vista you need a 64 bit architecture.

and the memory card reader doesnt support SDHC.

You will get the drivers for the network card dont worry about that.

XPS 1210 has Core2Duo now, and it is 64bit...

If you have Nvidia Go7400, you will run Windows Vista perfectly. There was a post of a little review of WinVista running on a m1210; search. With Core2Duo and dedicated gaphic card there's no problem.

Sorry for my English and Saludos :)

the m1210 is available with core2(64 bit) and has been for quite some time, it debut was with core duo, which is 32 bit only and vista premium runs just fine in 32 bit, 64 is an option that will be pretty much useless for average home users for quite a while longer, as for the drivers, I would say they probably will have them by the time vista officially launches

I don't know why DELL calls it a removable card reader, AFAIK it is fixed, they call all of their 5 in 1 card readers "5 in 1 removable card readers" (E1405, E1505 etc).

Most probably not, because DELL has been using the same card reader for more than a year now.

They will put it up once Vista starts shipping

Who knows… right now nothing comes to my mind

Any thoughts on the Dell Pre N card vs. the intel a/b/g?

if your planning on buying a compatible router it could be a good purchase, if your not going to upgrade your router, or connect to one thats n capeable on a regular basis, the abg will do just fine, the n spec isnt even finalized yet, so the dell card might not be fully compatible when the spec finally gets firmly established

I believe they mean it to be read as "5 in 1 'removable card' reader," as the cards themselves are removable. It's weird, but that's how I always saw it.
