    Hello Everyone

I just bought the Sony SZ 650 and when I use it with my 1920x1200 24" LCD via DVI on the docking station, I noticed my entire computer lags. Windows open slow, browsing emails in outlook takes 1-2 secs, when it should be instant, etc. Also, the slowdown seems to be intermittent.

Others on the Sony forum seem to think the Sony Nvidia is underpowered at that resolution. I know that the m1330 can run 1920x1200, and has the same Nvidia chip but with more memory, so I was wondering if people can run it smoothly and without a system slowdown? I'm thinking about switch to the Dell if I can't resolve the slowdown on my Sony..................

    Thanks!

I currently have a HP laptop plugged into 22" HP monitor running @ 1680x1050...I am also running Vista with full Aero graphics...It most def. LAGS! It is very annoying. That is the main reason I decided to get a new laptop with a more powerful video card. My HP laptop has a 128MB 8400M GS card in it.

Are you running Vista? If so what is your Aero score?

    Hello, here are some specs:

    I have a Sony SZ 650N with

    2.2 ghz C2D 4MB Cache,
    2 GB RAM,
Nvidia 8400M GS, I believe 64MB RAM, (Dell has 128MB)
Vista Business with SP1, (so no aero mode)
Vista score of 3.5 for Graphics and 4.2 for gaming graphics.

I removed some of the Sony Bloatware. FYI, I had a 22" LCD running and it was fine, but I only used it for a few hours.

Also, I noticed that the performance lag is intermittent.

Koo, are you saying that your HP with the 128MB lags? I would have thought 1680x1050 would be no problem. I ran a Dell D620 with a 22" lcd and a 19" side by side with my dell dock, no lag or performance issues. The D620 has the Nvidia NVS120 or something like that. (this was XP, but someone mentioned that XP vs Vista should have no effect)

Koo, are you getting a Dell m1330?

Anyone out there running a 24" LCD with the m1330?

    Thanks again.

I am getting a M1530 which has the 8600M GT in it. I will let you know as sooon as it comes if I continue to expereince lag issues. I also get a 3.5 for Aero in the Windows Vista ratings.

Considering Aero performance isn't amazing on the 1280x800 screen (a bit jumpy at times), I can't see it being particularly good on a 1920x1200 which is over double the number of pixels. Might be ok with Aero disabled though?

Ran perfectly on my old M1710 with 7950GTX, but that had 5.8/5.9 on Vista graphics performance... Big difference!

I just wanted to follow-up that my m1330 runs my 24" lcd just fine! Also, I can run dual monitor with the 24" and the m1330 lcd just fine. The best part is that when I unplug the 24" hmdi cable, the laptop quickly recognizes it and automatically swithces the m1330 lcd to the primary screen. When I plug it back in, it goes right back the way it should. My Sony didn't do that very well.

Yes, that's right, the Sony SZ has 64 MB.

I posted in the Sony forum that my computer was slow running a high-res lcd, but after installing XP, the Sony was fine. Vista or XP run fine on my Dell.

Thats strange. Might have to with the DVI port or more likely the Nvidia Drivers. Newer drivers have better Dual monitor support.
