    Oh man, this sucks!

I saw that the new drivers just got out, and I tried and installed them and the installation said that The installation could not locate any drivers that are compatible with my current hardware....(?)

...as if my video card drivers are not identified by windows as Nvidia!? hmmm.
I have the default drivers that come stock with the XPS.

Also, the drivers are the modified ones that should work with Laptops! so I dont know what to do!

    Help please!?

    thanks in advanced

You need to download the driver you want, along with the modified .inf file. Open or extract the package, move the modified .inf file into the new folder and then hit the setup or install program. See my NVidia tweak in the tweaking thread below.

Where are the new drivers out?
I wasn't planning to install any from the third party sites - I thought I would be patient and wait for Dell to publish them.
Tonight I see Microsoft are offering me new drivers as an Optional update. I am wary of accepting as I have had Microsoft downgrade drivers previously (I think when I had the latest and the Microsoft pushed out WHQL certified drivers of an earlier version). There is no information on the version number... it just says NVIDIA released them in October.

Should I let Microsoft upgrade me?

If you use the drivers from windows update, hibernation works via both lid and Fn+ F1
All laptopvideo2go driver do support sleep via the modded inf, but not hibernation.
The Vista update version is 156.67 and works well.
However you might find some higher benchies in the 169.04 version.

Also note that for some strange reason the 156.67 version gives brighter output via HDMI (much better PQ)

I see the drivers are now at Dell as well - but looks like a slightly earlier version than at Windows Update (?)
    Dell's site says:
Release Title: Video: nVidia GeForce 8400M, GeForce 8400M GS, GeForce 8600M, Driver, Windows Vista 32-bit, Multi Language, Multi System, v.156.55 WHQL, A04
    Release Date: 31/10/2007

I am trying to install the Dell one

Nah, Dell's one's driver date was actually August something, i.e. outdated to me.
