I just bought the XPS m170 this weekend and got the 2.0 processor. Can I upgrade this in the future? If yes how hard is it?

    Thx!

You can upgrade, but only to a Pentium M of higher speed. You will have to disassemble the laptop and take off the heatsink and clean it and replace the paste. That is about it. :) It is harder than it sounds. :)

    Hope this helps.

Thank's for the info. Since it will void my warranty I would wait for two years. I may never actually do the upgrade but it is nice to know it is an option.

    Thanks again!

I am not sure, but I don't think upgrading your processor voids your warranty. And it really is a fairly simple process, I think it's good to take your laptop apart anyway. It gives you a better understanding of how things are set up, and lets you know what you need to do if you ever wanna fix anything.

Personnally, I think one of the best upgrades a person can do to the XPS is a pinmod on their processor. You can actually make money off of it, and it is pretty easy to come out with a 2.26 or a 2.4 CPU. All up to you though, just know you can change it at any time, and I don't think it voids your warranty :)
