Lets say I want to replace my desktop with a laptop and price is not entirely a dealbreaker decision making factor is the m2010 worth getting?
Is there another more powerful, high performace notebook?

I think that thing is a freak and has no real place in either the notebook or desktop world. It's really kind of weak for a desktop and obscenely large for a notebook so it fits into neither category very well. But that's just my opinion. If I was going to spend big cash on a desktop replacement type notebook I'd definitely be looking at the M1710 instead. It's much more attractive and it's graphics card absolutely blows the x1800 out of the water performance-wise.
-
Only time I could see some one using it is when they are big into LAN parties, and they have plenty of cash to blow. Thats about the only place I can see it being very nice.
-
I would suggest u go for the M1710 as well....it performs better than the 2010 with that 7900 GTX. And its more portable.
Btw...are there any SLi notebooks out there that dont come with the AMD Turion 64 Processor?? Core Duo, Core 2 Duo or Turion X2 maybe? -
Yea theres really no reason for dell to make it. Its ridcously expensive and you can get just as good in their less expensive systems.
I cant believe dell even released something like that, I wouldnt be surprised if they scrap it after this year. -
Thanks for confirming what I was secretly thinking. Though it is impressive from the outside, the inside however is incredibly weak for the money put into purchasing it. I wasn't actually planning getting one, I was just trying to discover the purpose of having one.

Well a computer with a 20" screen, slot loading DVD drive, removeable integrated bluetooth mouse/keyboard, 8 speakers/1 sub. Basically is all for show, it really dosent have any place anywhere. I think dell just wanted to release something really really cool, which it is, but it dosent really have any pratical uses.

If you're going to spend that kind of money why not get a better performing (and looking) Falcon NW laptop? You can even select between AMD and Intel.
-
Falcon NW = drool
Man they make some nice machines. -
I too, agree on Falcon NW
-
no just get a desktop, no offence you cant get a 20 inch notebook that much!
-
I think it's an offense to call a 20" system a laptop.
First it would be extremely cumbersome to take it with you on a daily or even weekly basis and second, and then it's not that much more portable than a mATX form factor desktop that can be way more powerful than this laptop and way cheaper too.
I think you might see that system in $5mln dollar home with a ferrari parked next to it, where someone uses the puter to surf the web, check e-mail and maybe trade stocks or something rather.
At that point the system simply an element of home design as opposed to a functional piece of equipment purchased for "real work" (let it be work, school or games).
Yes it looks cool but that's about it, it has no real practical applications. Too weak for a desktop (esp at that price) and too big for a notebook (and very expensive too). M1710 w/docking station, 20" LCD, bluetooth kb and mouse would be a much nicer and much cheaper setup. -
It seems everyone agrees that the m2010 is a waste of money.

buying a 20" notebook in my opinion serves no purpose as it is neither portable nor worth all that cash even if u do mange to take it off ur desk and out of your home you would need to make sure that there is a power supply whereeer it is that u will be using ur notebook or desktop replacement or....whatever you prefer to call it....but then again the extra weight would kill you though its quite nice to have a 20" display

holy crap that thing is a laptop? when I was going to place my order on the m1210 and saw the picture of the m2010 I honestly thought that was a desktop.
-
According to dell, it's a laptop, but it certainly doesn't function as one.
