    Hi,

I just got this notebook, It came preinstalled with VISTA. I did not like VISTA and so I installed XP.

Everything is running fine except the standby. Every time I try to place the notebook into Standby, the LCD goes blank but I still hear the HD/FAN everything seems on.

Then it just sits there LCD blank and i cannot even come out of stand by. I will have to hold the power button 4seconds so i can turn it off. Occasionally this did not work in which case i have no idea how to turn it off to restart besides pulling the battery out (is there a secret reset switch? ;)

Now this feature did work properly in VISTA so I don't want to blame it on hardware.

Any suggestions? I am running all the latest drivers from DELL (except the BIOS) .

    Thanks,
    rct

XP was notoriously infamous for not being able to use the standy or sleep feature. This may not be the case with your situation, but I'm sure if you read around on the net you'll see what I mean. I always turned mine off when I had XP. This was one thing that was fixed in Vista. =)
