Well, as the title says, my XPS came today and I am impressed overall with the laptop. Unfortunately, my screen is very grainy and thus a technician is scheduled to come out and replace it.

I am not sure on the details of this procedure; the technician was a bit robotic. Has anyone experienced this? It sounded like a technician will be coming out to my house to do the LCD replacement but again I am not too sure.

Has anyone had experience with this and technicians? Should I be worried that my laptop will never be the same after they dissect it? Thanks for any input.

You should have just got a replacement instead of the repair because you are still in the return/exchange period.

Yea I think you are right, but at the same I didn't want to risk anything else, because other than the screen lookin like ass (grainy and dull), the laptop is fine. No whine, all hardware buttons work, etc. IF the LCD still sucks after replacement, then yea, I'll get a replacement unit. In the expert opinions of forum readers, would I be better off with a unit replacement, or screen replacement. Thanks.

Another odd thing I noticed is that I have no protective plastic anywhere on my unit. Not on the hinges, media control buttons, nothing. Is this strange? Also, a piece of the speaker cover is bent up! I am now on the phone; I am just going to have a replacement unit sent. This is depressing lol. I hope the new one is fine :(

looks like you got sent a second hand one, mine had plastic on all those bits and the plastic had never been peeled i could tell because there were no blemishes or bubbles the only way i figured there was plastic on mine was becasue i scratched it with my fingernail to check, maybe you should too just in case you actually do have plastic on yours.

Anyway my xps arrived a few days ago, had high hopes for it and meh turned out to be kind of an anticlimax its nothing special in my opinion just heavily hyped and marketed.

I too did not have protective plastic on mine. I was fortunate though, not a mark on it.. and I got the good LG screen so I'm not complaining.

Well, I got my replacement 1530 yesterday with the high res 1680x1050 wsxga+. I have to say that I am really disappointed. The laptop is great, but the screen is grainy with severe backlight bleeding on the bottom of the screen. It turns out I have the infamous sec3350. :(

I am strongly considering asking Dell to send me out a new one (ugg....a third one). One thing I did do that might help some of you "stuck" with the sec/samsung screen. I went into my nvidia control panel and changed the contrast in the color settings. I moved the contrast from 50% to 85% -- what a huge difference. The black levels are much better this way. I hope that helps some of you. I still think I will opt for the replacement due to the awful graininess and backlight bleeding.
