Sorry for the dumb question but I am about to order and I cant decide between the wxga+ and the wsxga. I have read it's personal preference but is one generally better than the other on the 15.4? I am currently using a 15.4 @ 1280X800. Thanks

No, one is not better than the other. Like you said it will depend on preference and personal uses. The lower the resolution, the brighter your screen will tend to be. The higher, the crisper but also smaller you images will be. Each will have it's (+)s and (-)s. In general lower resolution screens have less issues but any of them can have problems.

But won't having a higher resolution also give you the option of changing to lower resolutions, but not the other way around?

Yes, you could lower the resolution, but the fonts will be fuzzier. Unlike CRT's, LCD's are only sharp at their native resolution.

Another factor to consider is that, for demanding games, the higher the screen resolution, the slower the frame rates at a given quality setting. To maintain the frame rate at a higher resolution, you may need to reduce the quality settings.

After not being able to see the higher resolutions in person and reading this forum I am leaning towards the 1440X900. Dont even know why. Guess I dont want the fonts too small.

It's a good choice, the 1440x900. You won't regret it. It's a nice happy medium.

the 1440 is actually brighter than the 1280. the 1680 is duller than both the 1440 and 1280! so 1440 is truly a safe bet!
