My XPS2 screen is getting dimmer. It used to be that I needed it to be 2-3 notches from max becuase it was so bright. I now have it maxed and its still dim. Any ideas? Its a little over a year old. I kept it in near mint condition but noticed this just about the year mark.

Im assuming you have it plugged in right?

If your in warranty, have them send out a replacement screen.

    Might just be from age

Sounds more like the screen is about to die. If you have warranty, this should be covered and you won't have to pay anything.

If you don't have warranty, you can try contacting screentekinc.com for a screen replacement or possibly dell spare parts for a refurbished screen.

Since it has only been a month, you might still contact dell. You might be able to get your warranty extended.

Hmm.. I'll try and find out. I guess paying $200 to ext warrenty is better than paying $500+ for a new screen

I know you can extend your warranty anytime as long as you are under warranty. I would think that they have some kind of extension type thing if your warranty is out of date. In fact I know they do, I saw it on one of their sites.

I'll see if i can find it.

[edit] I knew I saw this somewhere. I know it says LCDs are at an extra cost, but can't hurt to try. http://support.dell.com/support/top...are/en/expired_warranty?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs

please keep us posted on how it works out.

i've not heard of this problem before. if it is getting dimmer, i would think it's the backlight and not the lcd itself.

I wonder if that is replaceable. My screen is in perfect condition. no dead pixels.
