I was at school one day, and suddenly this thought jumped into my head:
Theoretically, if you were able to change the game coding on the game CD, could it be possible to play an Xbox 360 or PS3 game on your PC?
Like I said, it was just a thought. Don't be afraid to throw it back in my face.![]()

Those are what ports are. For example, Halo 2 got ported to the PC.
-
Yes, but I mean just going out and buying an Xbox 360 game (e.g Halo 3), putting it into your PC, change the coding around, and playing it on your PC.
-
That's like saying go out and buy an airplane, modify the engine, and land on the moon. It's not that easy.
It requires just as much knowledge to port a game as it does to make a brand new one. Not to mention changing source code is illegal. -
I guess, if you have a team of developers working for quite some time.
-
I'm not sure...but I think it's against forum rules to talk about these kinds of things....you know, the illegal ones.
-
He's not asking how to do it. Plus this is beyond the realm of "illegal" and into "impossible". It's like talking about kidnapping the president.
-
Like I said, it was just a thought.
-
It will be possible, just like it happened with the previous generation consoles - PSX, PS2, maybe xbox?. But you're looking at least till ps4 comes out, and by then, you might as well buy a ps3 (assuming Sony doesn't go bankrupt by then).
-
It's not as simple as you think.

Commander Wolf can i haz broadwell?
But for older games they usually run by means of an emulator and not any sort of modification to the game itself. The downside to the emulator is that the system requirements are a lot higher than the specs of the original console.
