I managed to get a M1210 referb in the outlet for $1299. Prices normally at $2,050. Do you guys that shop the outlet think this is the best I'll do in say the next month or so? It's pretty much want I want except a web camera (and bluetooth and wireless N which I can upgrade later). I would like a 2.13 ghz but I'm not sure how much more that might run in the outlet.

    Core 2 Duo 2.0 ghz
    2 gigs ram
    100 Gig 7200 rpm drive
    9 Cell Battery
    GeForce Go 7400
    DVD R/W
    SB Audigy Advanced
    XP Pro

    Thanks!

The difference between a 2.00 GHz and 2.13 GHz processor is very little. There will probably be no difference when surfing the web and word processing, and also no difference in gaming, as the limiting factor there will be the graphics card. There shouldn't be much difference if you are doing an encoding, because enoding uses quite a bit of cache, and boh have the same. The T7200 is generally acknowlegded as the best price/performance processors from the Core 2 Duo series.

I would recommend the fastest processor you can afford. I personally use a 2.33 ghz C2D and it's GREAT... If you get a XPS1210, I'd definitely get the fastest CPU available. You could get a lighter and better laptop if speed is not you main concern.

when you get the 2.13 ghz does the speedstep program slow it down? can u disable the speedstep and let it run at a constant 2.0 ghz or 2.13 ghz?

    thanks

Speedstep will slow the processor clock down to about 1 Ghz. There is practically no difference in speed, at least if you are surfing the Internet, when it does this. You can have it at full speed, but it will only make the notebook hot.

well i notice that it's pretty slow when loading up adobe cs2 and dreamweaver. I would monitor it on cpu-z and it wouldn't kick into full 2.0 ghz until 3/4's way thru the loading of the program.

I figured it would load faster if it just had 2.0 ghz right away. I might be wrong. thanks for your input.
