Today DELL send me my paid legaly Windows 7 64bit proffesional disc.

After been talking to the support (about 2,5 min) and explained that i was bored to burn out 3 DVD discs just to able to a proper windows install. DELL said.... No problemo. We send you right away.

Again DELL support shows why they are the best support in the world.

But really.... It should be like they did in the past (a free win cd when you get your laptop). You have paid big money for your windows license, then it cant be that much to get a simple CD.

Wait a sec. Digital River sounds familiar. Aren't these the "Upgrade" versions of Windows 7 vs. "Full" versions of Windows 7? I remember buying the Windows 7 upgrade version for my older laptop via Digital River.

Have you personally downloaded the Windows 7 Home Premium ISO on this page and successfully installed Windows with it?

Dell, HP and Lenovo send Windows 7 discs/recovery media once for free under warranty in case your recovery partition did not work or your drive/motherboard failed.

To make a backup copy of Windows 7 partition you needed 3 DVD discs? I am confused how you install Windows with 3 DVD discs. Also if it wasn't that hard to ask Dell to get the Windows 7 recovery disc, then I think I will do that.

How the heck do you install Windows using 3 DVDs? Are the DVD's labelled disc 1, disc 2 and disc 3? Do you install it through the normal way of setting your DVD drive as first bootup device in the BIOS and then "press any key" to begin or do you have to go to some Advanced options to this?

I just can't picture installing Windows using 3 DVDs. I guess it must have been in some way where it prompts you to insert Disc 2 maybe? Any advice?

The recovery partition/disc is not "Windows", it is essentially a factory image of the harddisk. Windows + drivers +bloatware +more.... They don't use windows UI, usually come with the manufacturer UI.

when my girlfriend bought a acer, we (also) burned out 3 DVDs with Vista on it.

call DELL instead and say you have issues (or something) and they send you a clean windows 7 64bit CD.....the best (at least here in Sweden) is they dont have home edition on CD.............i had to choose on either Professional or Ultimate. (i choose Professional) :)

you have paid about $80 for your windows license when you buy a DELL laptop by the way....you have earn your CD i guess :)

This means that you got a free upgrade to professional?

Which support did you call? The general or technical?

    In response to earlier posts:

The versions on DR are full ISOs, not upgrade.

I've personally used ISOs from there to install Home Premium x64 twice, and Ultimate x64 once, all without issue.

Any tips on how to burn the ISO's? I was planning on using Imgburn. Are there any special settings you need to do to make sure its a bootable DVD?

    30€ for a dvd burned with a win7 iso is quite a ripoff... .
for 38€ you can get win 7 home premium (ml) with a license and the funny part, it is from dell!

In the netherlands you can just choose to make them deliver an extra Windows 7 CD when you are configuring. For no extra costs.

They sent me the Win 7 Pro CD with the machine. They did not, however, include the applications disk. Does the Dell utility work with a DB-Rom disk? (ie, can you burn the image to 1 BD-Rom disk)

I burned the recovery image to 1 BD-RE disc, looks like it didn't use more than 2/3 of the disc :p

I think I am going to request Dell to send me the Windows disks tomorrow. I think it is BS why they are not sending out the Windows disk media anymore.

There should be an online form, one of my friend filled the form (one year after warranty) and dell mailed the disks, no questions asked.

as per the form you are eligible for one copy for free per machine.

I got the rep to include the disk with my order. (Another rep told me he couldn't.) This is what is on my quote - OS Media MUI Windows® 7 SP1 Home Premium (64 BIT). I feel that this is a recovery disc rather than a standard windows 7 dvd. Does anybody know can I do a fully clean install with this? It won't reinstall all the bloat?

Yeah that should be OK I think. As long as Home Premium is what your laptop came with, just enter the serial number on the base of your laptop and it should work
