that makes you wonder how inflated their original prices are, doesn't it? even with discounts, if they agree to give you credit or coupons or better (free) shipping or freebies such as notebook sleeves or cases, that should really say something. how wide can their profit margin be?

ehh i wouldn't exactly call it customer "service"

you can't think of per unit cost, you have to think of it as a whole. everybody who buys a laptop, their profit margin and then all the people they have to make concessions to. they don't make concessions to everybody.

I also agree..I never thought about it that way. Think about all of the poor people though who are paying incredibly inflated prices for their laptops =(

Indeed. Without the EPP discount, the 1520 is much more expensive than a better equipped Sager2090/Compal IFL90.

from wikipedia:
Revenue $55.908 Billion USD (2006)
Net income $3.572 Billion USD (2006)
( 6.39% profit margin)
any analyst can tell that those figures are *healthy*, although its true that they recently recovered from financial fiasco! -
What is the EPP discount?

You know that Apple has a 50% profit margin on the Apple iPhone?
-
And how I become a EPP member? I want the discount...do I ask a code or something where I work (it's all Dell system) or I have to create a special account?
I'm sure Dell like any other company do a great margin, it's why they do good special sometime. -
