noooooo, i had it all written but i forgot to put my username and password..gotta retype it all again[ :(]

anyways i'm having fun with my i6000(a week old)

my first question is in the hardware section of this forum theres this sticky about "How to optimmize your laptop" I followed the instruciton for disabling "disk indexing for fast searches" but during the process a window pops up and asks me to "ignore" "ignore all" "retry" "cancel" several files(the name's really long with buncha numbers). I clicked "ignore all"..is this safe at all?

second is when the noisy fan turns on at some point, it wouldnt turn off back again.. I think this is because my room's too hot and never cools down.

    Thanks!

Yes, you can click ignore all, and it will be okay. As for the fan problem, it appears to be a problem with the bios. There have been alot of complaints about it (the 9300 does the same, but ours is really quiet). I'm not sure if dell released a new version of the bios for 6000 yet. If you haven't already, go to

    http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/index.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&~ck=mn

and download any new drivers for your 6000. Also, I always suggest to subscribe to filewatch (on the right part under additional features). You'll get an email whenever they update their drivers (which sometimes they can be a little slow to update).

wow, thanks i never knew that bios stuff existed. I upgraded my bios from A05 -> A06, and after laptop rebooted some message popped up about sending on error report to microsoft or something..(something abuot svchost.exe) hope its not a big problem.

what are some essential drivers that i should install?
I see that my hard disk drive is from 2001... but it's so confusing to install though, boot disks??

Considering that you just got yours, you probably should go thru the list and just download all of the ones related to your hardware (skip the dell software stuff). They are relatively short downloads if you have dsl/cable. Futhermore, this will make sure all of your drivers are current.

The most essential ones (in my opinion) are chipset, flash bios, removable storage, and IDE. One software that you do need to get is Notebook System Software. It will run one time and check for any conflicts with your hardware, and try to resolve them. Its on the same page as the drivers, but download/install it after you have installed all the others and rebooted.

If you're having a HUGE problem with fan noise, you can always get SpeedFan, a background program that I find runs quite effectively without hogging resources.

I'm having a bit trouble installing driver for the disk drive. It says to create a book disk which I did using ClondCD and Daemon tools to mount the iso of the driver. It should auto play thereafter, but it's not working..

Did you go to bios (F2 as soon as you see the Dell Logo on startup), and choose for it to boot up from the disk instead of HDD? Then insert the disk, and reboot.

Yep, you'll recognize it when you see it. It will ask you which order would you like to boot up. Make sure the CD/dvd is in the top slot. Then save your changes, and it should boot from the cd then.
let me know if this works,

hmmm, apprantly Daemon tools or clone cd loads up only in Windows so they didn't show up in the boot menu. That means that I will have to burn the driver iso into an actual cd..but I don't have the program to burn a boot cd-rom..[ :(]

Um in I6000 is the fan supposed to be only on the left side? My right side is hottt and the left is really cool..hmmm when the fan just don't shut down I just turn off the notebook..
