Since I never use Dell MediaDirect, when i reinstalled vista, I deleted the mediaDirect partition because I rather that 2GB. and after 2 days I finally made my m1330 almost fully works in ubuntu 7.10 gusty. (exept a bug with internal mic, and BT)

and I found this he said if u don't have MediaDirect installed and you press that button it will mess up all your OS and MBR.

so my question is, have anyone tried to press that button without having MediaDirect installed? I want to try with mine, but I dont want to take the risk of reinstall vista and ubuntu again :S

Nothing can happen while in the OS; the problem is if you attempt to boot off a non-existent MD partition using the MD button from a power-off state. People have reported that to mess up their MBR.

Why doesn't Dell offer a free, downloadable tool to remap their various multimedia and miscellaneous keys to perform other actions besides their default?

I wouldn't use 'MediaDirect' either, but it would be nice if that button (and others) I'd paid for could be made to do something a little more productive to my requirements.

Are you 'Outreach' guys and girls listening in?

A single app, where you pick a profile based on your series and model of notebook, it displays a simple top-down schematic of all the available keys on the selected device, I then simply select one with a mouse pointer and an explorer window pops up where I can then browse to an .exe on my system to alter the buttons functioning state. With an option to apply defaults again obviously.

    Thank you kindly.

    I have 3 question

1-how do I ensure that grub is loaded into the Linux partition's bootsector?
2- what can I do if I have already using grub to dual boot vista/ubuntu? (I mean I use power button to boot both OS)
3- do I need to have MD partition? because I deleted it
