does it come with 128 megs of discrete ram and 128 allocated to hyper? that would be pretty raw of dell to ship me 64 megs discrete and 192 hyper.

I think it comes with 128 MB on the card, and the extra 128 MB comes from the system memory.

since we are talking about the x1400 and the e1505 i have been wondering about this for a long time: will the x1400 support windows aero with the resolution 1680X1050? sorry if this has been already asked i tried searching for an answer.

yes it will, 128MB of video RAM is enough for that.

Yes, it works fine in Areo.

People have a misconception that Areo needs some crazy video card for full Areo support. It doesn't, and works fine.

if the card can do the resolution in a 3d game, then it can do it in aero.

Well, ATI & nVidia would like people to think that...it means more $$$ for them.

    Very nice thread.
I also have a question about the E1505 + X1400 and i was about to post a new question when i saw this one.

On Ati's ( its AMD now,but anyway) website about X1400 it says :

    here : http://ati.amd.com/products/mobilityradeonx1400/specs.html

but since Dell is _NOT_ listed on the "Notebook Manufacturers and System Integrators Supported" here : http://ati.amd.com/support/drivers/xp/mobility-xp.html
i am wondering are they offering a "good" X1400 for their E1505 series or some crappy release and just using the x1400 specs ?

I have some suspicions that the E1505's X1400 is NOT so good as its meant to be. Since ATI are saying that it could be with DDR,DDR2 or DDR3 there could be a huge difference in the performance part between the different types of memory.

Can the owners of E1505 with X1400 tell what kind of memory and memory interface do you have ? I.e. is it 64bit memory bus or its a 128bit ? And also if it is DDR2 or GDDR3.

Not even to say that the "official" ATI driver is not working with the E1505 i've tested and it requires the Dell's driver to be installed.Otherwise the card will have only the windows' crappy driver.

    thanks
