Has anyone heard of a 'jerkstopper' -- it attaches to the adaptor and is designed to take the strain if you jerk or pull on cable accidentally?

    thanks.

Well actually the Dell adapters have one built in if you notice. The side that connects to the wall has a tight fit and it curves around backward so that if your lappy is plugged in and someone trips over it, a lot of the tension is in the cord connecting to the wall and not the computer, so it will come out of the wall first usually. Of course there's always a chance for a spark from that, but that's better than your whole computer being dragged to the ground.

I thought that was the point of that piece located about 1 inch away from the end of the plug: to catch the brunt of someone yanking the cable.

Thats a ferrite coil usually to stop interference being picked up by the cable.
