I tried to add some RAM to my Dell Inspiron but upon attempting to turn it back on after inserting the new chip the lights on it flash (nothing comes on the screen) for several seconds then it goes dead. I removed the new chip but still get the same result. Couldm the new chip have caused this and, more importantly, how can I get it running again?

Did you remove the chip and insert the old one? It is most likely you just didn't push it in secure enough. Make sure the clips pop back into place. Don't worry you can't damage your laptop by putting in the ram.

What model of Inspiron do you have? I've got an older 9200, and I replaced the factory RAM with two 1GB sticks of G.Skill and had some problems. I had to replace the old RAM so I could boot it up and look up some possible problems, but after trying a few times I finally got it up and running.
