I guess those small sticky tar particles found in cigarette smoke make it easy for larger dust particles to stick, causing fast buildup of difficult to remove dirt. That could lead to some problems over time.

The main thing that smoke will do is block the vents and prevent the system from cooling down properly, and making it more likely to over heat.

But other than that, no, smoke will not cause any other problems...however overheating in itself is quite a big problem!

    Does it really matter?

If you smoke, you're addicted and will probably smoke regardless of the impact on the computer.

Not everyone who smokes is addicted to Nicotine...

I know a lot of people who smoke on special occasions only, and usually cigars.

I also know people who only smoke cigarettes once in a while, usually when stressed, in place of having a drink.

But to the TS, I doubt smoking while using your laptop will cause any problems :).

    And that's where you're wrong.

You've obviously never serviced a computer that comes from a smokers house. They can be full of brown sticky goo......and if the person smokes heavily, the whole laptop itself can become discolored.

Nothing smells worse than a tar infested laptop once it heats up!!

I stopped smoking 3 years ago but i remember when i dismantled my old desktop computer and pulled the monitor out of the unit i had it on - i was gobsmacked at the amount of gunk on it and around the vents! God knows what was inside it (though i was more concerned about the state of my body's own 'components' hence quitting)!
