look in the power options in the control panel, there should be an option to set the amount of time the computer waits for sleep/hibernate...set those to never
then look for the option to change what the lid does when it's shut. the default option is "sleep"...

on vista the option is on the sidebar of the power options panel, called "choose what closing the lid does"

When you put your lappy into sleep/hibernate, it stops the internet connection. I am pretty sure there is no way to change that.

Thats what I have it set to. All the computer does is turn off the display when you close the lid. I find it annoying when it goes to sleep w/ the lid closed.
