Dell offered up a really cheap XPS M1330 on the Drake University store on their site about a week or so ago. I think the discount was something in the neighborhood of $650, and it included a free upgrade to 2GB of RAM, a printer, free carrying case, whole shebang. Even though it was meant for Drake University students, anyone could access the store through dell.com/drake, and the deal was posted here and then over at slickdeals. Dell got a metric ton of orders overnight, and took the deal down.
They later said it was a pricing error (which I believe, since prices on the new systems were sll over the place right after they were released), but that didn't stop a lot of people from getting in orders for fully tricked-out M1330's for about $1,200. And people like HenryMann will still tell you how we're all going to burn for being morally low. -
There was a deal between Drake and Dell to sell prospective Drake students the m1330 at a very good price with cheaper upgrades. Because of the poor ability to check actual eligibility many people exploited this discount and bought them without any intention to go to Drake.
I did hear that it was actually removed because the deal's quota was met, 500 orders. -

Oh, thanks for the info.

No, it wasn't a deal or anything...it was a pricing error...

Honestly, I believe that. I don't see how they could give that big a price break to one school and no one else (at least no one we found). I understand the "they're a small school" argument, but the deal that was up there was obscene.

And that went away, as well. The LSU "deal" is also up to $1,499 after the incident.
