Yes great deal. I also got excited about Dell's 34% off the Inspiron 6000 on the weekend. Yesterday I ordered a fully loaded 6000 with the integrated video, only to find the ATI X300 available today for the same 34% off! (The Dell Small Business site was not offering 34% off).
So I cancelled my order and ordered the same fully loaded rig but with the ATI X300 128MB card for only about $100 more.

Yes, at dell home, you need to bypass the "special deal" and go to the page where it lists all of the notebook choices. There, you can choose, celeron, pentium m, or pentium m with dedicated graphics.

thanks for the replies, i went to Dell University instead, 12% off with 3 yr cover, and $100 rebate, even tho with tax, still seems to be a better deal than dell home
I just ordered i8600 last friday, should i cancel it and get i6000 instead? I went with 8600 for the video card, and now they offerin x300 for 6000 ...
-
does anybody know how much time we can get with a 6 cell battery?
and the 9 cell is $65, 6 cell + add 9 cell is only $85 (only 20 more)
, but i guess the add. battery only goes in the media bay, rite? -

You don't need any id number to create the initial order. If I remember correctly, at checkout they ask for a student id number. I used my number as a student, but I am not sure how they verify the number or if they do check to see if you are a legit student.

That was the bottom line price shipped no tax to RI. Your right though shouda went two 9 cells, oh well I'll have a lighter weight configuration for around the crib [8D]Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -
WOW, no wonder the price is not the same as i calcualte it.
if the upgrade is $99, it is already with the 1/3 off. for example:
base $ 1800 - 1/3 off = $1200, with the upgrade it would become $1200 + $99 ( not $99 with 1/3 off ), and what Dell does to make u think that it is 1/3 off is to increase the base price, then it is $1??? - 1/3 off = $1299, which makes the upgrade more than the price shown.
just to let u know in case u are confused as i was. Happy shopping -
I am just wondering, for everyone who has already ordered the 6000 with the 128mb x300 card... Has your order moved out of pre-production to "in production" yet? It took longer for this order to be processed than my last orders, and my previous orders moved to "in production" almost instantly. I am wondering if the delay is due to the video cards, or if it is just my order. Do all of you also have a two-week wait until estimated shipping? My last two orders (that I cancelled) were only one week. (BTW I called to inquire about the delay and two-week build time, and they upgraded my shipping to next-day for free)
Please let me know if you are experienceing the same delays...
-
herike, I've ordered i6000 on Sunday with the following video card: INTEGRATED INTEL IDEO,I6000,UMA. And you know what? My order didn't move from the Pre-Production yet, what makes me really mad! My estimate ship day is "Friday, or before Friday" ;/
-
yeah, same situation here , maybe i should give them a call too
2 weeks waitin could be painful

I wonder if Dell just received a flood of orders for the 6000 with the 34% off deal and new video options which many people have been waiting for. It's so hard to wait once you made the order!
-
i9300 release in first week of March. It will have the 6800 graphics card. This is straight from a dell rep.
-
I ordered the i6000 on tuesday and its in pre production with an estimated ship date of march 8.
I had a student discount but didnt use it and orderd through dell home becuase it came out $30 cheaper without tax. why does dell charge tax in education site? -
if u get 3yr coverage, the 12% discount will offset ur tax ( 8.?% here in NY), then throw in 4 yr coverage for $66 + $100 rebate (u gain $34

Didn't take the plunge on a 6000 but i did pick up a 9200. I was going for a descent gaming system that has a battery life and mobility! I know its big, but i won't be doing a lot of moving but still will do some, mostly around school, also i have seen it in person and loved the screen.

Hey guys,
The Dell 6000 was the Gateway M460 were the two finalists for me. In the end I chose the M460XL-QS (1.8 Ghz, 512 MB RAM - one chip, 80 gig 5400 rpm drive, x600 ATI video w/ 128 MB dedicated, 15.4 wxga screen) for $1400.
My family has purchased 3 dell machines now w/o incedent, so Dell definitely hand the brand name for me, but I finally went w/ the gateway for the improved specs, weight, and hypothetical better screen and battery - I will give actual comments on these when I receive the machine.
Anyways, thought I'd let you know the option was out there. Also, because of the brand issues for me I placed my order over the phone and refused to accept the computer w/ a restocking fee. -
I saw a few Gateway notebooks in CC and BB, some of them sit side by side with HP, Toshiba brands, and I noticed that Gateway screen is not as brite as others, and yes, they look slim, but the screen is more important. The only thing I like is the X600, well there is no perfect notebooks, that is life.
Restocking fee? I thought that only applies to PCs from retail store.

One comment about gateway... Have you read about all of the cracking (display) hinges on gateway notebooks? I hope this doesn't happen to your purchase, but after reading all of the complaints, I went to Best Buy to check on the hinges. Sure enough, The first gateway notebook I looked at had a cracked hinge. Hopefully this won't be a problem on your model, but be aware of the quality of casing that you receive.
-
I placed my order on Tuesday morning, and it has not left pre-production yet. It wouldn't surprise me if it has to do with the x300 cards. I made two previous orders in the last couple weeks that I cancelled because I was waiting on the video card, and those orders went to "in-production" almost immediately. I hate waiting! BTW, I called Dell up and inquired about the long estimated build time, and they upgraded my shipping to next day for free. It doesn't hurt to call them up.
-
has anybodys order for i6000 left preproduction yet?
-
As I understand it, that was more of an emachines problem. It has been virtually eliminated from Gateway.
-
I cancelled my i8600 a few days ago, and I just received a delay notification email from Dell. How wonderful!!? Status? boxing. I guess I have to call them ( I cancelled it using online chat last time) BTW, does Dell charge restokcing fee for returned computers?

Hallo Cheq326,
Do I see correctly that you do have the Inspiron 6000 AND the HP ZV5000 ?
I noticed that both models are in your signature / avatar...
Since I am trying to decide between these two models, maybe you could help me out to compare these? It is mainly speaker/sound & display quality and sturdyness I am concerned about.
Thanks, mike. -
Hi, I ordered I6000 with intel graphics, and then cancelled it on thursday the day it was in boxing stage!! Lucky me [
]...now waiting on it with x300 card.
My estimated shipping date is 14th March[8)] and yes it is because of the discrete video card, which the dell guy told me while placing the new order.
-Mad -
Mike, although my i6000 is still in production, but I know that zv5000's speakers are much better than i6000's. I love zv5000's brite view screen, it is beautiful (kinda dissapointed after knowing that i6000 still use the old matted screen, I will see if I have to return the notebook because of the screen) Generally, HP's built quality is better than Dell (i8600), but I heard that they improve built quality for i6000(true ?)

I have decided to choose the Dell because of its better portability, and the good news I read about its "better than average" / "loud and clear" speakers, and the better build than other Inspiron models, and the great price.
Let's hope I, and all the other 6000 buyers, made the right choice...
I ordered it yesterday.
Mike.

Intel® Pentium® M 715 400 MHZ (not the 730 with 533MHZ, since memory for this model won't be faster than 400 MHZ)

Yeah, mine has been in boxing too for a very long time.
But my estimated ship date is March 11, so I guess this is normal?
Whats everyones experience with boxing stage? -
i ordered my Dell Inspiron 6000 with 128mb ATI early last week and it has been in the boxing stage for 2 days. is anyone else having the same problem?
-
I just did a google search regarding Dell's boxing stage and it appears that this is the stage where they actually ship your computer from Malaysia where they are built to the USA. So a 3-5 day boxing stage is apparently normal.
-
Mine has been in boxing since Sunday (3 days) and it's due for shipping out on the 8th.

From Dell's Forum:
"There seeem to be a lot of you who are concerned because you think that your computer is just sitting there wating to be boxed for days. It's actually in transit from the Dell manufacturing facility in Malaysia, where it was built and tested, to the Dell Nashville facility, from where it will ship. This process usually takes about 3 business days, with one additional day for packaging and shipment from Nashville There is no need for concern as this is completely normal. Thanks."

Well, just to let everyone know, i received my I9200 yesterday! Ordered Febuary 23rd, 2005 around 10pm and received March 1st, 2005 from UPS at 2:30pm. My only guess why all your guys I6000 are taking so long is that was an amazing deal they had running for them and caused a lot of shipments.
Also on a side note to an tweakers/overclockers, i was running ATI tool 0.0.23 to see where my 9700 could be taken too and it got the core up too 530, base was 440 and was running stable for 45 minutes! Is that normal? I set it at 475 to be safe, but just wondering if a normal GPU on those cards can be set so high.

Maybe you ordered a specific part that they have to wait for before they can build your computer.
Mine has been in the Boxing stage for a little bit now, so I hope it gets out into shipping this week so I can have it by mid-week next week. But the official estimate for delivery is like March 16th.
(I ordered the 28th)
amazing deal for these specs! (dell 6000 with 128)
