i have a 2.75 year old inspiron 1100 and something is wrong... i opened it all up the parts look fine so i have no idea whats good or whats bad... the problem is the laptop won't charge... the battery is dead, the laptop won't charge and the ac adapter when i plug it in shows a little light in the front and then after its in there it doesn't charge either... so my notebook is not getting any power... anybody have any idea how to fix this?? i tried opening it up and tightening any loose parts but i don't think i had the right idea...

are you saying only that the battery won't charge but it works on a/c?
i wouldn't be surprised if a 3 year old battery is totally dead. -
no, the battery was working fine before, the system won't run on ac nor on battery... it just won't run!

anybody have any thoughts?

mm... this is like asking "my car doesn't start! anybody have any ideas?"
It can be many things. For example, the power supply, the motherboard, the battery or battery/power supply connectors etc.
Have you tried to take the battery out, plug the power supply into the laptop and see if it starts? If that doesn't work then your problem is not the battery.
You can check the voltage coming from the power supply using a multimeter. If it is close to the rated voltage (written on the power supply). I also had problems where a faulty ram stick didn't allow the laptop to turn on..
Anyhow, lots and lots of things can be wrong.
