Other than the obvious no glare, what is the difference between the two screens? Both choices are 1440 x 900.
thanks

more vibrant and richer colors on glossy screens
-
no mirror to check urself out on on an anti-glare screen LOL
-
i have anti-glare screen and absolutely love it. seen glossy screens, they r pretty nice, but i'm just old-fashioned and like anti-glare better.

I have been using an Inspiron 8500 1900*1200 every day for 4 years now with anti-glare and loved it. Until now that is... I have just upgraded to Vostro 1700 T7500 4GB Truelife 256 1900*1200. When I strated it for the first time I thought ye god's what have I done. But I have been using it for a week now and it is fantastic. On a scale of 1 to 10 comparing the two side by side I would give the Inspiron 6.5 and the Vostro 10.

If take your notebook outdoors, it would be best to have an anti-glare screen. On the other hand, if you are mainly situated indoors, a glossy screen will appear a lot better than an anti-glare one.

About 2 years ago, I went to BestBuy to purchase a LCD display for my son's desktop. After looking at all the 20 or so models they had, I finally settled on a NEC glossy screen. It was by far the brightest and clearest they had among all the different brands.
Needless to say, I didn't hesitate when chosing a glossy hi-res screen for my Vostro.
EDIT:
To answer OP's original question, according the the info on Dell's website ( here) there is no difference other than one is glossy and the other is not. -
dont they just add the anti-glare coating/film over the glossy screen?, thats what i would imagine they do.

I wasn't sure about the glossy screen before my 1520 came last week, but I must say it's quite impressive. My computer desk is situated directly across from my window, and I really don't have complaints, as my chair blocks the rest of the would-be reflections that weren't already gone due to the tilt of the screen.

Personally, I hate to see my face on the glossy screen

with glossy you can see if someone is behind you while you're surfing for porn.

I hav the vostro 1500 with anti glare, personally i gettin a bit p@!@$@ed off with the color reproduction on these things, i wanna swap it for a truelife, but dell wont let me

I love my glossy as well. I was very unsure whether to get the glossy or matte due to the whole "its a mirror" craziness here. But I don't think it reflects that much, specially when its on.
Plus, it looks 1000 times better than my old thinkpad and HP with matte screens. -
I wish dell would let me replace it, they said even if my screen broke they couldnt give me the truelife!! i said it costs the same? answer: Dell policy sir!!
-
It really depends where you are going to use it most. In an office or at home with lighting behind you then I would go matte everytime...but then I'm a matte user.
-
I honestly would have chosen anti-glare, if that had been an option for WSXGA+, but that was before using the true-life. Now, if I needed to buy another, I would definitely choose the true-life.

I prefer matte screens.
1) Scratches don't show up as apparently. My Inspiron 8200 screen is scratched but I don't notice it when it's on. With a glossy screen, I can always see it in the reflection.
2) Viewing angle. I find that I always have to adjust a glossy screen to not see any reflections, and that limits the effective viewing angle of the screen. No such problems for matte screens.
3) If you are in a situation where there are reflections in the glossy screen, you get extra eyestrain. No problems with a matte screen.
The only advantage glossy screens have is "better colour reproduction" but it's dubious at best. The colour reproduction sucks if it's washed out by glare and that happens all the time. -

I think when gaming matte is best, because gaming often are dark images and those look better on matte. While light images like word and surfing look better on glare.
I am not a fan of the macbook glossy, but like the dell 2007fpw matte I have. -
I disagree the truelife screen is much better for blacks and colours then the matte, i havent noticed any reflections unless the screen is turned off...however the bonus of a portable mirror is worth it
anti-glare or glossy screen??
