Just trying to get an idea of whether or not we're getting the same problems as our US cousins.

I'm from Canada. I have a 1420. I also installed XP on mine last week. The only thing I notice about mine is a slight sparkle on white web sites when I'm very close to the monitor. Everything else seems fine and is working.

    Hi,

My order for an Inspiron 1520 was cancelled by Dell over the weekend.

I placed the order on July first for a delivery the 18th, on the 18 I called to get status, since there was no change on the website.

this morning I called Dell, they told me the system had cancelled my order and that I needed to place a new order, this was because of a BACK ORDER on the back plate cover of the laptop, the representative told me that the new delay would be 7 to 15 working days for the assembly but the that back order was another 7 to 10 days after that. Well in my calculation that bring us to September 1st.

I need the laptop by August 23rd before university starts.

I guess I needed a different laptop, any suggestions, would be great ly appreciated.

Sorry to hear the bad news Charlewood. What university are you heading to?

Might be a good idea to cancel the 1520 and see if you can hassle a Dell rep to give you some compensation to use toward ordering a Vostro, because i think their wait times are a bit lower.

Going to UQAM, in biology, want the laptop for my studies.

I just think that the Rep I spoke to could have offered some other machine, even at an adidtional cost, only thing she could tell me to do was reorder.

Looking at IBM T-61's right now? Will check out the Vostro, but my confidence in Dell is shot right now, I am will to pay good money, but they do needed to want to take it and supply me with something?

    Thanks for your input,

I would call em up and explain the situation and tell them you're committed to buying another Dell if you can get better assistance.

My experience --> bought an Inspiron 1520, but the screen was terrible so I called to send it back, 2 reps gave me the run around and wanted to charge me a 15% restocking fee. I kept calling and finally found someone who knew what they were doing. He helped return the Inspiron and assisted me with getting a new Vostro.. even kind enough to waive the shipping charges and no restocking fee on my returned system.

You just gotta find someone who's having a good day and is willing to help.
***I originally ordered a T61 before the Inspiron but I canceled it because it was a 4 week wait from Lenovo. Looking back I'm glad I did because the NVS Quadro 140m wouldn't have made me nearly as happy as the 8600m GT :) The Inspiron arrived 6 days before the estimated ship.
