I am hoping to buy an ultralight laptop (e.g. D420) but with lots of flash buffer (2GB?) on the HDD (unlikely) or motherboard. I assume I should not hold my breath for April? How about September? Does Dell give any hints of its plans for Centrino Pro rollout?

    Many thanks,

I don't know about Dell specifically but Centrino Pro should be out in April/May.

Intel's Santa Rosa platform has officially been announced that it will be branded as Centrino Pro, so expect it to be out around April or May.

I should have explained that I did know when Santa Rosa (Centrino Pro) is supposed to be out.

My question was more on the lines of, how long should it take for Dell to put it in an ultralight similar to the D420?

I mean, the day after Centrino Pro is officially out, will Dell make a clean sweep of all their old models and have a full line of Centrino Pro notebooks ready to ship? Or will they release one fully loaded model at a high price with lots of publicity, then one more in a couple of months, with the ultralight getting new technology last and maybe not until 2008?

I'm not sure if Dell will have Centrino Pro in their lineup the very next next day but they are usually very quick to adopt new technology. My guess is that all of their notebook models will adopt Centrino Pro within the first week or so.

Reason I asked is that, long after the bigger laptops had Core Duos, the ultralight (X1?) had an older cpu (Pentium M?). And the current ultralight (D420) still doesn't offer a 2 Duo, just a choice of Solo or Duo. So they are not quick in every case. Of course this may not be a good analogy.

Besides Robson flash and 802.11n being released, Santa Rosa will also support processors with a 800 Mhz FSB.

I know Core 2 Duo U7400 and U7600 are being released as part of the Santa Rosa processor line. What about any others? Are 5000/7000 just being refreshed, or is Intel going to do something like 7100/7300/7500/etc., with a totally new line of processors?
