Hi as you may have seen i am looking at vostro 1500 and waiting for deals. But i noticed that there have been people who have just hated there screens and i was wondering if there are any problems that could make dell screens unusable for a programmer/gamer. THANKS :)

I don't know of any defects... but I've only used the 17" lineup of Vostros so... but I doubt there have been any MAJOR issues or you would've already heard of it. :)

No major problems here, but I did encounter multiple "stained" pixels on my refurb XPS M1730. Fortunately Dell replaced it under warranty.

no major problems except the grainy screen, some dead or stuck pixels from time to time and tbe screen simply dying in some cases.

No better and no worse than other companies, including the vaunted Apple.

The right question to ask is, where are they sourcing their screens from?

I think everyone sources from Samsung, LG, AUO, Chi-Mei these days. So depending on which ones make the screen and which size and at what resolution, you can get a reasonable answer.

Unfortunately, you can't really pick which screen you get.

I've purchased 3 Vostro 1500's and a Vostro 1700 and have yet to encounter any problems with the screens. I have not encountered the so called grainy screen effect either.
