my 1440x900 glossy screen has been built by AUo and the model number as i found on the hardwareID option in the control panel is AUO2077. it does not have any graininess whatsoever....just wondering if anybody else also has the same model?

    Hi,

    Yes, I have the AUO2077 WXGA+ (1440 x 900) screen in my Vostro 1500 too!

I notice it has a slight "silky sheen" to the screen (is that the same as "grainy"?), but that doesn't bother me too much.

However, I have noticed that when using the laptop close-up (on a "beanbag tray" on my lap), I can't see the whole screen at 100% equal brightness - I notice it horizontally (side-to-side) more than vertically (although this phenomenon does occur a bit vertically too) - so I have to move my head a bit to see the right-most part of the screen at the same brightness as the centre (and then the left-hand side of the screen darkens a bit) - is this normal? Perhaps it's just a narrow-ish horizontal viewing angle?

Having said all that, I can actually see clearly (and read text clearly) the screen contents from quite wide angles (both horizontally and vertically), which is good I guess.

Other than that, I'm very happy with my Vostro 1500 (and if I hadn't been reading these damn forums, I would probably be very happy with the screen too! LOL). :D

Yep, I'm getting used to it too and I'm now happy with my screen.

Also, I'm glad I got the WXGA+ (1440 x 900) resolution screen - it's the perfect "sweet spot" giving a good combination of screen space "real estate" and graphical performance (for games and other applications). :)
